Creating and editing tasks

A task can be as light as a title, or hold everything you need to know about a piece of work. You fill in only the parts that matter, and leave the rest.

Tap + from Board or Planner to open the editor. A title is all a task needs to be saved — the rest can wait.

You can also start a task from a note, from a list row, or from another task’s links. See Your first task for the create flow start to finish.

The editor is grouped into sections so you can move straight to what you need.

  • Summary — the task at a glance: title, status, priority, category, tags, and a read-out of its schedule and links.
  • Description — room for the detail, in your own words. Separate from comments and from linked notes.
  • Schedule — start and end dates, start and end times, a time estimate, reminders, and repeat settings. A date places the task on the Planner; a start time places it on the day’s clock.
  • Time Entries — track the hours a task really takes. Let the timer run while it’s In-Progress, or add entries by hand.
  • Task Links — connect related work: Subtasks that roll up into a parent, Related tasks alongside it, and Blocked By for what must happen first.
  • Notes — attach an existing note or write a new one, so the context lives with the work.
  1. Open a task to see its details.
  2. Change any field, then save.
  3. Reach for Clear times if plans shift and you’d rather start the schedule fresh.

Existing tasks keep a comment thread for updates or running notes, and a history of what changed and when — helpful when you come back to a task after a while.

Deleting a task takes it out of your everyday views. While it’s still recoverable, you can bring it back from Board. For a repeating task, Nydhei asks whether to remove one occurrence or the ones still ahead.

  • Linking a task to a note keeps the thinking and the doing together.
  • Type shortcuts right in the title — like a date, an estimate, or a reminder — and Nydhei fills the matching field as you go.
  • To set a task to repeat, see Recurring tasks.
