Because only your devices can read your content, you hold the key to it. That key is your recovery phrase: twelve words that let you regain access if you ever lose your devices.

Set up your recovery phrase

1. Open the recovery phrase setup.
2. Note down your twelve words, in order.
3. Confirm them to finish. Nydhei lets you know when it’s done — “Recovery phrase backed up.”

Keep the words safe

Keep your twelve words somewhere safe and private — written down, away from your screen. They are the one thing that can restore access to your encrypted work, so treat them with care.

Regenerating

You can regenerate your recovery phrase if you need a fresh one. When you do, your old words stop working, so store the new twelve words right away.

• No one but you should ever see these words. Nydhei can’t read your content, and can’t recover it for you without them.
• This phrase works alongside device linking: linking adds a trusted device, the phrase is your fallback.
